pipes Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Hi all .Finally got around to getting a new plug for the auxillary heater.Eventually got one from the local VW dealer as it was cheaper than Fords. VW part no7M3-963-319-A.The plug supplied has two leads on it . White and dark brown and comes with a note to show where to put the wires in the plug connector. All very well. However i am not totally convinced that it is the right part as i believe the existing plug has a threaded top.Is it permissable to fit the new plug or have i got the wrong part? The guy in VW said that the part ive been supplied is the only part available from them for the DW5-Z heater.Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 The plug with the leads is the latest ceramic plug for that heater replacing 0100 226 228 and 0100 226 340.The wires replace the lead which will be removed to fit the new plug.Don't throw the old lead as a precaution as you cant to back to using the older type plug without it. You can search on ebay for the older plug on ebay or http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=54 Quote

marinabrid Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 (edited) if your old plug has a threaded nut on then this new one with wires is the wrong one, its for the later heater, take it back for a refund and get the beru one from a gsf dealer it will be much cheaper as well. the beru numbers are in the other reply , the one ending 340 is what you need, its then a straight swop over. very odd for the vw man to say thats the only part available, they have all the parts avaialble at my local dealer 1 sounds like he cant be bothered to help you. Think you are wrong about the plug. The one with the wires is a new modified one that is supposed to last longer. It will fit but like chrispb123456 posted, you need to remove the old plug and wires and install the new plug and fit the wires into the main multi plug in the heater. That is what I did last year and it works fine. pipes Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 Thanks for that.I think i will take it back as i may be Quote
pipes Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Hi. Do you reckon given the previous post from Billywizzo i'd be better off staying with the one i've got. If its a better part i may bite the bullet and keep it. Edited January 1, 2012 by pipes Quote
marinabrid Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 unsure about life of the new plug, i have had the one with the nut on in my heater for the last 4 years with no problems, i would think it quicker and easier to fit, the wires can become brittle around the multi plug and if disturbed could cause you problems you didnt have, just speaking from my own experience, have had gals since 1996 and sorted these heaters out with just new glowplug, id say stick with the original. but of course others may say otherwise. we all have our own choice. pipes Posted January 1, 2012 Author Report Posted January 1, 2012 Think ive decided now to take the wired one back and save a few quid and get the standard one instead. If its an equivilant to the one fitted then i will be happy. Cheers Quote
